Fashion and languages

Yesterday I was dressed up in a vest jumper I bought at zara some months ago. And when writting the description for the wardrobe remix group at flickr, I realized I have not decided yet if I speak British or American English: vest or waistcoat? jumper or pinafore?

I've always studied British English, and at school I was taught 'trousers', 'waistcoat', 'braces' and many other fashion-related words I'm not saying anymore. Lately I've noticed I say 'pants', 'vest', 'suspenders' and every American word I'm not sure where I've learnt it from. I don't know why but if I look for 't-strap' shoes on ebay I know I need a size 7 (american) and if I write 't-bar' instead I will need a size 4 (from the uk). I know the 'pixie boots' I like are always from the UK. And there are many trendy words I don't even know the Spanish word: 'Oxford' shoes are called the same, a 'pencil skirt' has a literal translation in Spanish and wedges are 'cuñas'. But what about a 'tulip skirt'? I really don't know how to say it in my mother tongue.

To sum up. Yesterday I was wearing a tweed jumper and I'm learning a lot of English with this on line fashion illness. :)
